Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB)Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities with an acknowledged reputation for excellence in research, for the advancement of young researchers and for the ability to implement change. Established in 1965, RUB is located in the midst of the dynamic, hospitable metropolitan area of the Ruhr and host to more than 32,000 students and 5,000 academic and non-academic staff. RUB consistently ranks within the Top Ten universities nationally, as measured by the number of DFG-funded collaborative research centres (SFBs), currently hosting 9 SFBs and collaborating in another 5 SFBs. Doubling our external grant income in the last ten years, we have significantly increased our research capacity. Our researchers publish regularly in high-ranking journals and participate successfully in competitive biddings for both individual and collaborative research excellence. RUB has an extensive experience in managing EU projects successfully: In FP6 it has been coordinator in 10 projects and collaborated in another 35 projects, and in FP7 so far it has been coordinator in 4 projects and partner in another 32 projects.
